Analysis Team to Present Three Sessions at ODTUG Kscope19 in June

Analysis Team will present three breakout sessions and participate in an expert discussion panel at the upcoming Kscope19 conference, June 23 through 27, 2019 in Seattle, WA.

Kscope is an annual conference organized by the Oracle Development Tools User Group (ODTUG) that offers educational sessions on technical topics related to Oracle Database, Oracle Application Express (APEX), Oracle Business Intelligence (including Essbase) and Oracle’s Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Suite (Hyperion).

This year at Kscope19 Analysis Team will have a significant presence.  We’re proud to present or co-present the following sessions:

Trials and Tribulations

(Client case study with Abbott Laboratories)

Primary Presenter: Mihaela Ciota, Sr. Specialist Financial Systems – Abbott Laboratories
Co-Presenter: Doug Pearce, Principal Consultant – Analysis Team, Inc.

Clinical trials for medical device companies can take over a decade to complete and be very expensive. Planning and tracking expenses over such a long period just isn’t something your typical GL planning system supports. Come hear how Abbott used Applied OLAP’s Dodeca, a new ASO Essbase cube, and simple SQL to replace two expensive and un-scalable systems with a powerful platform for modelling clinical studies based on changing assumptions and drivers. Administrative bottlenecks were removed, and end users were freed from the “this year, next year” view of things. Dodeca also allowed for integrations to update actuals, reforecast, and submit totals back to the consolidated GL model. Changes to studies can now be compared and annotated like never before.

Everything You Need to Know about Essbase Load Rules

Primary Presenter: Doug Pearce, Principal Consultant – Analysis Team, Inc.
Co-Presenter: George Cooper, BI Architect – Gap, Inc.

If you’ve ever had questions about an unruly .RUL or you’re not really sure what Load Rules do, this is the Essbase session for you. At the heart of Essbase, there are two principal elements of a cube—its Outline and its data. Data Load Rules are essential to creating and changing both.

After we cover features of the Data Prep Editor, we’ll dive into tips and traps associated with loading data and building dimensions in Essbase. Specific examples include bullet-proofing your Rule when changing member aliases, updating UDAs, using advanced record selection, and more. Learn in a few minutes what you could glean from the Administrator’s Guide over days. We’ll present real-world problems and solutions that come from decades of experience with Essbase. If this topic excites you, please come to share and ask questions.

Where the Wild Cubes Are

Primary Presenter: Martin Neuliep, Client Success Director – Analysis Team, Inc.
Co-Presenter: Doug Pearce, Principal Consultant – Analysis Team, Inc.

Almost everyone has an Essbase cube that loads General Ledger data for reporting and analysis, possibly even allowing for input of budget or forecast scenarios. But if you stop there, you’ll be missing out on the massive benefit Essbase can bring by analyzing different kinds of data beyond the GL. In this session, we will take a tour of a fascinating jungle of other applications ranging from monitoring employee health and safety to web traffic analysis and lots of points in between. Each one was built for a real client, in industries ranging from chemical manufacturing to movie making.

After attending this session you’ll:

  • Be able to recognize opportunities to deliver new value from your Essbase investment.
  • Build better applications by taking advantage of the lessons we learned while we built these wild cubes.
  • Avoid repeating the mistakes we made when trying to build cubes that were a little too wild.

In addition, we’ll be participating in a panel discussion:

Essbase Design Architecture Panel

Moderator: Peter Nitschke, Practice Manager, EPM – EssbaseDownUnder

Dave Stark (President, Analysis Team) and Martin Neuliep (Client Success Director, Analysis Team) will join other highly experienced Oracle Essbase solution designers and implementers on this discussion panel.  Topics to be covered will include: what makes a “good” Essbase cube, the weirdest and wackiest builds that have worked (and any that haven’t), and the future of multi-dimensional modeling. We’ll also cover the first three questions you need to ask your stakeholders (and yourself) and where the biggest risks are.

If you’re planning to attend the conference, please stop by to learn something new, join the conversation or just say “hi.”  If you haven’t yet signed up for Kscope19, for more information and to register go to the conference web site.
