At the recent KScope15 Conference in Hollywood, Florida (June 21-25, 2015), Analysis Team co-presented two sessions with George Cooper, BI Principal at Gap, Inc. KScope is the annual conference organized by the Oracle Development Tools User Group (ODTUG) and is considered by Oracle customers and implementation consultants to be the premier event for keeping up to date with Oracle Essbase and the Hyperion EPM suite.
Doug Pearce, Principal Consultant with Analysis Team, together with George, co-presented “Unappreciated and Maligned Core Essbase Features.” This session focused on a few controversial and often-avoided features and explained, through actual business use cases, how the features have been used to enhance functionality and improve system performance. Among other topics, Doug and George taught how best to use Intelligent Calculation for faster performance and correct calculation results, and discussed when to use and to avoid “Dynamic Calc” and “Dynamic Calc and Store” in the Essbase outline.
Bill Reddy, Analysis Team’s Director of the BI/EPM Practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, also with George, co-presented “Essbase: Advanced Design Patterns from the Trenches.” In this session, the presenters introduced several methodologies and discussed how solutions have been designed to meet real-life business needs and overcome technical obstacles. Bill and George explained techniques to significantly speed up currency conversion calculations (in ASO or BSO), how to design a Bill of Materials model in Essbase, and how to enhance ASO aggregation performance with ladder-step aggregation patterns leveraging process automation.
