Analysis Team presented a well-attended educational session at the Kscope18 conference in Orlando, Florida (June 10-14, 2018).  Kscope is the annual conference organized by the Oracle Development Tools User Group (ODTUG) and is considered by Oracle customers and implementation consultants to be the premier event for keeping up to date with Oracle Essbase, Business Intelligence and the Hyperion EPM suite.

Dave Stark (President) and Doug Pearce (Principal Consultant) presented, “Essbase: What Is It, Technically?”  The one-hour session was an introduction to Oracle’s industry-leading multidimensional analytic and business intelligence tool, covering key features and functions. The goal of the presentation was to provide those who are new to Essbase with an overview that can serve as a roadmap for learning how to develop and support Essbase solutions.

Dave and Doug discussed the key components of an Essbase application, commonly called a “cube.” The presentation explained the concept of dimensionality and how it’s important for understanding the structure of an application, how Essbase loads and stores data, and how Calculation Scripts enable complex analytics.  Also covered were the Smart View Add-In for Excel and other reporting options that are available, security, and process automation approaches.  The session also included a high-level summary of the Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) platform and how the new cloud version of Essbase compares to the well-established legacy “on-premise” software.
